And why does this label guarantee KIATA skincare products are superior to other products on the market?
Come and discover the key facts to understand who are ECOCERT and why this certification proves just how much we care about your skin.
Importance of certification
How many natural or organic products have you seen lately? Many companies and brands claim that their products contain natural or organic ingredients but how can you be sure who to trust? Especially since brands invent certification logos that have no actual meaning or standard.
This is where certification bodies such as ECOCERT step in. Not only does ECOCERT promote the use of natural and organic ingredients, its standards are there to help you make the right choice when it comes to buying cosmetics.
To obtain ECOCERT certification, each company is tested using the same strict guidelines, so you can trust that the same level of quality will be found in each ECOCERT certified product. Simply look for the ECOCERT logo when buying your natural or organic cosmetics to be sure they’ve been produced using the upmost quality and care.
The beginning of cosmetics standards
Established in France, 1991, ECOCERT is the leading global organisation that promotes organic and natural products and environmentally friendly processes. In 2003, ECOCERT became the first organisation to create a worldwide standard for natural and organic cosmetics, systems and services. Simply put, ECOCERT uses one standard set of guidelines to make sure companies around the world provide the highest quality products in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
ECOCERT, along with a wide range of industry experts, developed a set of cosmetics guidelines to set standards throughout the cosmetics industry. Supporting over 1,000 companies worldwide, ECOCERT provides different levels of organic and natural certification to guarantee these high standards are maintained throughout the industry.
ECOCERT’s guidelines ensure natural and organic ingredients are ethically and sustainably sourced, processed using environmentally friendly techniques and that each ingredient is clearly labelled on certified cosmetic products. A thorough process for your peace of mind!
ECOCERT’s main principles reflect the ethical nature of their guidelines. These include:
– Promoting the use of ingredients from organic farming
– Respecting biodiversity
– Using natural resources and clean processes with respect for humans and the environment
– Providing transparency for the consumer with clear labelling and communications
– Promoting and implementing the “Green Chemistry” concept
– Harmonizing European and international standards
So, you can be certain that ECOCERT certified brands and products share the same green principles.
Levels of certification
Companies, like KIATA, must meet and continue to stick to strict guidelines and standards to obtain ECOCERT certification. If you see an ECOCERT certified label on a product, you can be sure that particular brand has invested time and money into making a quality product that respects both the consumer and the environment.
There are 2 levels of ECOCERT certification: natural and organic. For both certifications, a minimum of 95% of the total ingredients must be from natural origin.
ECOCERT certification not only ensures companies meet strict standards surrounding natural and organic ingredients, it also acts as a reassurance for those buying the products. Many of us are often bamboozled by organic and natural product labels and ingredients and find it hard to tell the difference between a truthful claim and a false one.
ECOCERT’s strict controls on communications (including marketing and advertising) and labelling makes it easier to find trustworthy brands and encourages more of us to buy organic and natural cosmetics.
What should I look for?
When purchasing natural and organic cosmetics, always look for labels accredited by an authorised certification body such as ECOCERT.
ECOCERT applies two types of labelling to certified cosmetic products:
ECOCERT COSMOS ORGANIC cosmetic label, where a minimum of 95% of all plant-based ingredients and a minimum of 10% of all ingredients must be sourced from organic farming.
ECOCERT COSMOS NATURAL cosmetic label, where a minimum of 50% of all plant-based ingredients and a minimum of 5% of all ingredients must be sourced from organic farming.
The COSMOS ORGANIC logo can be found on all KIATA products:
The highest standards
ECOCERT’s high standards continue throughout the life cycle of each product, working to ensure:
– Respect for the environment throughout the production process; from the farming and sourcing of the ingredients through to the manufacturing process.
– Respect for the consumer through transparency and traceability of the product ingredients.
– Valorisation of natural and organic substances by providing worldwide standards.
Through working with and constantly analysing the activities of all suppliers to meet these standards, ECOCERT also sets standards to help mankind and the environment whilst promoting the use of ingredients from sustainable practices and organic farming.
The ECOCERT Group are also committed to setting itself yearly targets to reduce its own environmental impact. From buying recyclable, environmentally friendly office supplies, to waste sorting and recycling, to carbon offsetting and encouraging staff to reduce their carbon emissions, ECOCERT both understands and applies ethical, responsible practices that it promotes in its own workplace.
From their European roots, ECOCERT has continued to launch a range of international subsidiaries, currently working in over 130 countries and reaching over 50,000 customers worldwide.
KIATA is committed to both the ethical practices and strict guidelines of the ECOCERT COSMOS ORGANIC standard. All our products are ECOCERT certified and our ingredients are clearly outlined on both our product packaging and our website as part of our dedication to transparency.
